Although the Keokuk hospital’s emergency room operations have not been reopened as soon as most would have liked to see, Insight, the company that has purchased the hospital building has plans for family activities this summer.

City leaders in Keokuk are asking residents and business owners to sign a petition in support of healthcare provider Insight’s request for $2.2 million in COVID relief funding.

The federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) money would come through the state, and Insight would use it to help reopen the city’s shuttered hospital.

January 19th, 2023

Flint, Mich.-based Insight has signed a letter of intent to take over the shuttered Keokuk Area Hospital in Iowa, according to a Jan. 19 report from NBC affiliate WGEM.

The hospital, operated by Quincy, Ill.-based Blessing Health System, ended inpatient services in the fall, the report said, creating a void in local patient care.

KEOKUK (WGEM) – The City of Keokuk reported Thursday that Blessing Health System has signed a letter of intent with Insight to acquire the former Keokuk Area Hospital.

According to city officials, Insight, headquartered in Flint, Michigan, is a growing health network in the Midwest with surgical centers across Michigan, a hospital in Warren, Michigan, and a 400-bed acute care hospital in the heart of Chicago’s southside community.

March 27, 2023

The acquisition of the closed Keokuk Area Hospital by Insight was finalized on March 24th with the transfer of ownership of the hospital building and other property from Blessing Health, the former operators of Keokuk Area Hospital. Insight intends to operate Keokuk Area Hospital as a nonprofit hospital. Insight is reviewing the new Rural Emergency Hospital (REH) designation that recently passed the State Legislature.
